HEIGHTS GARAGE CONVERSION

A modest project for ourselves, the existing garage had functioned as many different things over it’s 100 year history (pharmacy, cobbler, food distributer, coffee roaster), but never as a home.

We decided to maintain the shell and a portion of the garage function for one car, while cutting a courtyard into the middle of the building to provide light and air to the living spaces, which are organized around it. This “box”, along with three other boxes of storage, organize the internal space while maintaining the majority of existing partitions and structure.
